Download sample CSV files with 1,000 to 5 million rows of realistic data, generated in your browser.
About Large Sample CSV Files
Testing an import script, a database loader, a BI dashboard or a spreadsheet with a ten-row CSV tells you nothing about how it behaves with real volumes. This page creates large sample CSV files on demand: from 1,000 to 5,000,000 rows of realistic sales orders, customers, web server logs or product catalog data, with consistent columns, valid quoting and plausible values.
The file is generated by JavaScript in your browser and downloaded directly, so there is no waiting for a server and no upload or sign-up. Every dataset uses a fixed random seed: choosing the same dataset, row count and delimiter always produces exactly the same file, which makes test results reproducible and easy to share with a colleague. All names, emails and IP addresses are fictitious.
How to use Large Sample CSV Files step by step
Choose the data: sales orders, customers, web server logs or a product catalog. The preview below shows the columns and the first rows.
Pick a size with the buttons (1,000 to 5,000,000 rows) or type a custom number of rows.
Choose the delimiter (comma, semicolon, tab or pipe) and whether the file starts with a header row. The estimated size and generation time update as you change the options.
Click "Generate and download". A progress bar shows the generation; the file is saved to your downloads folder when it finishes.
Click "Open in the Large CSV Viewer" to browse, search or split the file you just generated without leaving the browser.
100% free and online: no payments, no software or extensions to install.
Privacy-first: processing happens in your browser, your data never leaves your device.
No sign-up: paste your data and get the result in one click.
Fast and reliable: handle small or large files in seconds, ready for Excel and other tools.
Common use cases
Load-test an import feature, an ETL job or a database COPY / LOAD DATA command with one million rows before it meets production data.
Check how Excel, Google Sheets, Power BI or Tableau behave with files near or above their row limits.
Benchmark pandas, Polars, DuckDB, R or a CSV parser library on the same reproducible file.
Prepare demo data for a dashboard, a SQL course or a data engineering interview exercise.
Test how an upload form, an API endpoint or a web app handles files of 100 MB or more.
Limits and tips
Approximate sizes for 1,000,000 rows with a comma delimiter: sales orders 83 MB, product catalog 81 MB, customers 95 MB and web server logs 123 MB. Five million rows are roughly five times that.
Excel opens at most 1,048,576 rows including the header, so the 1,000,000-row file is the largest that fits in one sheet. Use 2,000,000 or 5,000,000 rows to test what happens past that limit.
Some fields contain commas, such as "Green Tea, 100 bags" or "USB-C Hub, 7-in-1", and some last names contain apostrophes. They are quoted correctly, which is a good test for parsers that split lines on commas.
Generation runs at roughly 15 to 30 MB per second in a desktop browser, so a 400 MB file takes about 20 seconds. Phones and older laptops are slower and may run out of memory above a few hundred MB.
Dates are ISO 8601 in UTC (2025-11-08T03:36:01Z) and prices use a dot as decimal separator, the formats most databases and programming languages read without configuration.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I download a sample CSV file with 1 million rows?
On this page: choose a dataset, click the 1,000,000 button and then "Generate and download". The file is created in your browser in a few seconds and is about 80 to 125 MB depending on the dataset. It is free and needs no sign-up.
Is the data real?
No. Every value is generated from lists of common first names, last names, US and Canadian cities, products and web paths, combined at random. Emails use the reserved example.com, example.org and example.net domains, and phone numbers use the reserved 555 exchange, so the files are safe to share and to use in public demos.
Will I get the same file if I generate it again?
Yes. The generator uses a fixed seed, so the same dataset, number of rows, delimiter and header option always produce an identical file, byte for byte. That makes benchmarks and bug reports reproducible.
What is the largest file I can generate?
Up to 5,000,000 rows, which is 400 to 620 MB depending on the dataset. The file is held in the browser's memory until it is saved, so very large files work best in a desktop browser like Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
How do I open a CSV file this large?
Excel stops at 1,048,576 rows and many text editors struggle above a few hundred MB. Use the Large CSV Viewer on this site: it reads the file in pieces, opens millions of rows in seconds and can split the file into parts that fit in Excel.
